I did a photoshoot with my friend Ness whom had just recently received a beautiful old accordian for her birthday. I took the photos around Williamstown and I think they came out quite beautiful and have an old fashioned feel to them.
More Shooting...
My little brother Riley plays both the drums and guitar so I asked him if I could take some pictures and he was more than happy to be a little rockstar!

Portrait shots
I finally took a whole bunch of pictures of my friend Kristel who is one of the guitarists in my band Tantalum. I took about 500 in total and although there were a lot of blurry and funny ones, I think I managed to capture some really nice pictures. I found the first pictures I took in this set were like a warm up as Kristel's face appeared a bit tense and concentrated. As we went on and started to have fun with the photo shoot the pictures got better and captured who she is.
Some outside shots of Kristel at our rehearsal studio with her guitar. I really like these pictures, I think her face looks really beautiful and natural in them, but she also has an edge and a rock chick look which was what I wanted to capture.

Trees - experimenting
Lately I have been noticing a lot of trees that I have wanted to take pictures of, however I am always driving past. I stopped and took one the other day. This is quite a limbless looking tree that has been chopped around the power lines. I used photoshop to really make it pop. I like to take alot of the colour out then play around with the shadows and midtones.
More experimenting..
We went out for my friend Mels birthday and of course got pretty drunk. I took this photo of my boyfriend. I think it's pretty funny but it also interesting because he looks like an eccentric personality. He was wearing one of the girls fur stoles and just looks very wasted...
I also changed the levels in photoshop and desaturated the colours.
Photos of Alex at the Arthouse.. I experimented with the colours in photoshop and I tend to like then look when the vibrance is pulled out a bit and increased contrast.
I took some photos at band practice while the girls were setting up. Im still not sure about this idea, but maybe I just need to further develop it.
Experimentation - Animals
I have just been experimenting with the camera and took some photos of animals.
We are getting a new puppy and the breeder brought them over for us to meet so I took a few pictures.
My cat Bootsy - I like the way he curled up into a ball in this picture and he kind of has a strange look about him
Alex's cat Diesel - His face looks really cute in this shot. His jaw is lopsided because he had previously been in a car accident which is why his tongue hangs out his mouth. I think this adds character to the picture.

Images - unique people
After researching Diane Arbus I was inspired to take pictures of people whom I didn't know but found intriguing. It was a little strange approaching people and asking to take their picture and trying to build an instantaneous connection with them.
Statue Man - I decided to take a few shots of one of the buskers in Melbourne's city. It was interesting to watch the way the crowd interacted with him and people would run up and take photos.
Original Increased Clarity
Lolita Girl- I met this girl in Melbourne Central and asked to take her picture. She told me she was meeting some friends who like to dress in this Lolita fashion which comes from Japan. She was meeting them to go ice skating. I thought she looked really different and just stood out amongst the business in the city.
Pirate People - These 3 people were dressed in pirate costume as part of a pirate themed weekend. I asked to take their picture as I thought they also stood out. The guy sitting on the left was a little hesitant which I think you can read in his body language.

Inspiration
As a musician I am around people who play in bands alot. I am thinking for my final folio to focus on people and typologies. I want to take portrait style pictures of musicians in their environments and try to capture their individual style and personalites within the pictures. People in bands tend to dress or represent themselves in a certain style influenced by their preference in musical genre and usually appear alternative to mainstream culture. I might take my camera out with me one night and try to capture some photographs of people at Melbourne's alternative and rock venues such as cherry bar in AC/DC lane.
Ideas: buskers, nightlife, gigs, culture, events...
I found this image on deviant art and I like the way the amps and gear is shown in the background with the model posed at the front. I'm not sure if I want to take posed pictures but perhaps more capturing people in a moment.
I looked up some portrait pictures of some artists I like.
Debbie Harry - Blondie
Debbie Harry by Andy Warhol
I also looked at a photographer of rockstars, named Greg Waterman. He has taken pictures of artists such as Kings Of Leon, Cypress Hill, Nirvana, Marlyn Manson and many more.
Chrissy Amphlett of The Divinyls. Whilst searching for this picture, I found some photos on a blog which really capture the essence of what I'm looking for on this blog.
The Sex Pistols - I like the way this image captures a moment of playfulness and childlike behavior by the band and lets people see into a glimpse of their lives. I prefer the spontaneity in this picture rather than a posed band shot.

Multiple Me
Today we took multiple pictures of ourselves using the Cannon cameras on a tripod. Then using Photoshop and layers to overlay the differing images of ourselves into one picture. Here are my results!
This picture came out quite bright as there was a window behind as well as the light in the library, but I like the way the different poses worked really well.
I really like the lighting in this picture, which was taken in one of the university toilets. I would have liked to use more poses, but the ones we got we too close together. The tripod also got sightly knocked which resulted in a misaligned picture.

Photography
Last weekend i decided to further practice my photography skills, as my boyfriend's band had 2 gigs, so I took live band shots at The Bayside bar in Frankston and The Espy in St Kilda. It was tricky to get the the settings right for the lighting in the room as when each band went on stage it changed slightly with the lighting effect colours. I prefer the look of live band photos without using flash as I think it captures more energy and atmosphere of the performance, however with the movement and lighting of the band it is hard to get a clear and close up picture.
More pictures
I took most of them on TV mode and played around with the time value to suit the picture.

Inspiration continued...
I discovered August Bradley at the start of this year and I really love his photographs. His photos are often used in fashion, magazines and art galleries. I like the way his photos almost tell a dream-like story to the viewer and create a sense of mystery. The whole scene, composition, colour and costume seem to have been strategically thought out. His photos almost create a sense of stillness and he edits them to make his subjects look doll-like and frozen. From what I can gather I think he dramatises the way the light is falling on the subject which really gives the picture a 3D effect.
Diane Arbus is an American photographer (1923-1971) who was known for taking pictures of people who were not considered the 'norm' in society. I love the strange and haunting quality her pictures capture. I am interested in photographing people who look different to what is considered mainstream and appear unique or different to the majority of society (tattoos, piercings, abnormalities, strange attributes). I am thinking this could be an idea to further think about for my folio.

Experimentation
On the weekend I went to Frankston whilst my boyfriend was recording some acoustic songs. I decided to take a few snaps of him as I wanted to play around with the camera settings to try to get the right lighting and I also wanted to capture a portrait of his expression while singing.
I was being vain and took a self portrait of myself. I like the intimacy and detail of portrait pictures when they are more closely zoomed in and you can see detail in the persons face.
