Hi, my name is Cassandra. Today I attended my first digital art class, which I am excited to be taking this semester. My study background is in music and I play bass, guitar & sing, however I also have a passion for art, especially Surrealism, Illustrative Art & Tattoo style imagery. During class I am looking forward to learning how to use digital art programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop to offer a new medium in which I can use to create and modify art. I want my art to be inspired by surrealism, the mind, secrets, memories and music & lyrics.
Some Artists whom I admire include, Salvador Dali, H.R Giger, Rene' Magritte, Mark Ryden, Bill Ward, Alberto Vargas and many more.
After checking out rhizome.org I found a few different works which interested me.
The first which stood out to me was a piece by Michael Demers, titled 'The Ghost of Vannevar Bush Hacked My Server', 2009. I like the way this image looks ghost like and almost hazy and blurry. The image is made up of binary code which consists of various patterns of 1's and 0's. This image appeared at random on Demers' server, which he then copied and pasted onto a blank page and the haunting visualisation of a man appeared. Demers thought this image resembled a man named Vannevar Bush. Bush was an American engineer, born in 1940, who played a part in developing the atomic bomb, creating initial structures for the internet and was a technological innovator.
I found a picture of Vannevar Bush on wikipedia (below) and I can see some sort of a ressembelance to how he may have looked when he was younger. What do you think?

I also wanted to post this work, as I like the look of the mixed up sections of photos, I may use this as inspiration for one of my digital art works. The artist is Troy Bennett and the artwork is based on human expressions and the way they show different personaility traits of a person.
