Week 2 - Text Art

I started experimenting with text art on illustrator. I used my name in a script font then created outlines for each letter then warped it randomly to create a spilled ink, sharp and dark look. I also used the pen tool to draw a simple black bow then warped the ends, which kind of made it appear like it had fangs.

After discussing The Angry Penguins and the spawn of poet Ern Malley's random creations, I was inspired to create a text artwork based on The Exquisite Corpse Game. This was a game the Surrealist artisit's used to play in which each artist would draw or write anything on a section of paper, fold it over, then pass it around. By the end, the result would be a random poem or artwork.

I used some old magazines and cut out random words, mixed them up and put them together to form sentences. The result was something quite weird and imaginative. I could use this as inspiration for an artwork or alone as photographic text art.

Lately I have been drawing and looking at keys for my still life art class and this is something that could relate to my theme, with the idea of secrets, hidden places and thoughts. I took a few pictures of a collection of keys I have, I put it into Illustrator and used an effect on the picture then wrapped the text around it, with some lyrics I have written.
